Here are some brief notes on my mother`s house for sale in via Case Nuove at Castelleone di Suasa (AN).

The house is situated in an enviable position on the extreme South outcrop of the hill overlooking the town Castelleone: the view spans from Mount San Vicino (MC), the towns Montecarotto, Barbara, Ostra Vetere (AN) and as far as Mondavio and Orciano (PU).
The house was built on the ruins of a Byzantine settlement and precisely because of its position, defended the valley which was the main route of the Longobards of Spoleto all the way to the Byzantine Pentapoli of Ravenna. Along with other fortified settlements
(Farneto, Conocla, Colle di Guido, Calcinaria and on the opposite side Serra di Pavone) they made up a tight defensive network at the weakest point of the whole Byzantine/Longobard frontier from the Apennines to the Adriatic sea at the turn of VII° and VIII ° centuries AD.
Thanks to the Franks and the elimination of the Longobard threat in 756, the settlement loses a little of its strategic importance.
Cartecosa is quoted in several donation acts of XI° and XII° centuries concerning the Benedictine Abbeys of Fonte Avellana and S. Lorenzo in Campo.
Probably left in ruins after the Guelph and Ghibelline wars in the first half of the XIII° century, it was then rebuilt as a monastery in the XVI° century. Since the end of the year
1700, home to the farmers family working on the land of the Marquis Pianetti Lotteringhi Della Stufa.
